To find confidence, you’ve got to sell. To sell you’ve got to do just three things:
1. Know your products and services like an extension of yourself.
2. Believe in them all without the slightest reservation.
3. Care about what your customers say.
If customers repeatedly want to shop around or walk away after talking to you, you’ve failed in at least one of these areas.
That’s because you are the trustee of your customers’ needs. Customers are actually buying the real you.
I say this after half a working life personally on the front line and at times, not knowing when to say I didn’t fit.
I’ll also say, that if you’re wanting a career at head office, go and sell something for your employer first. Only then will you have lived what your business is and know what it actually does.
If you think selling is below you, that in life you’ll never at minimum have to sell your smile, it’s likely because something with the three keys is off inside.
So work at those keys in their sequence—know yourself, believe in yourself and be interested in those around you.
That’s why you don’t need confidence to sell, but selling will definitely bring you confidence.
